Cost of cat insurance in California?
Cats are adventurous and love to run, jump, chase, and unfortunately, run across roads and streets. This is why cat insurance is so important to help you take care of them without the stress that comes with an unexpected vet bill. Even a simple MRI scan for your cat can cost over $1,000. Most accident and illness cat insurance policies will cover this MRI scan so you don’t have to worry about paying for these simple diagnostic procedures.
Cat insurance is generally cheaper than dog insurance in California so it’s definitely worth considering.
According to the North American Pet Health Insurance Association - or NAPHIA for short - the average pet health insurance premium for accident-only policies was only $11.13 for cats. So for the full 12-month cover, you could be paying only $133 to protect your feline friend. For a higher level of cover that protects you and your cat from accident and illness, the average cost rises to $28.48 for cats. This level of cover will be worth it if you find yourself staring at a vet bill of over $3,000 for even some of the more minor vet surgeries.
Type of Cover
Accident Only: This will protect your cat in the event of an accident. This wouldn’t cover things like tumors or other illnesses your cat may fall victim to.
Accident and Illness: This is a better level of cover and will cost you more than the basic Accident Only policy. If your cat is unfortunate to become ill then this is the level of cover with more protection. It’s important to get the correct level cover for you and your cat as insurance cover varies greatly. Try and select the best level of cover at a monthly or yearly premium that is affordable for you.
Cat Policy Deductible
An insurance deductible is an amount you have to pay if you make a claim. So if your vet bill is $5,000 and you have an excess of $100, you will pay the $100 amount and the insurance carrier will pay $4,900. For a low-cost premium, you can select a higher deductible amount.
